Terms of Service

Effective date: October 12, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Secret Simple Computer Repair, which also does business as Secret Simple IT (“Secret Simple,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They apply when you use our website (secretsimplecomputerrepair.com) or our on-site or remote services. These Terms applies to all Secret Simple Computer Repair websites and services, including secretsimplecomputerrepair.com and our related sites and programs (such as our Password Academy and IT Health Checkup offerings). By booking or using our services, you agree to these Terms. Each section starts with a plain-English summary. The full text of the section is what controls.

1) Our Services and Scope

In plain English: we’ll agree on what we’re working on before we start.

We provide on-site computer repair in Central Texas and remote IT support. Remote support is available outside Texas on request. Before we start, we’ll agree with you on the work to be done (the “scope”), either verbally or in writing, such as an estimate, invoice, or message. Anything outside that scope, such as a new problem we find along the way, needs your approval first. Estimates are our best guess and may change if we find more than expected.

Rates. Our rates depend on the type, scope, and location of the work. On-site visits may include trip or travel fees and minimum charges, and long-distance or after-hours appointments may be billed at higher rates. We’ll give you the rate or an estimate before we start. Estimates aren’t final prices, and we’ll tell you before going meaningfully over.

2) Your Backups and Data Loss

In plain English: please back up your data. Repairs can sometimes put data at risk, and we can’t be responsible for data you didn’t back up.

You’re responsible for keeping current backups of your data before any service. Computer repair carries a risk of data loss, especially with failing drives, malware, or system errors. We take reasonable care, but to the extent Texas law allows, we’re not responsible for loss or corruption of data, software, or settings, except where it’s caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct. If you’d like us to back up your data before we work, ask us. That’s a separate service.

3) Remote Access

In plain English: you’re there to start and approve every session, we never connect without you, and you can end the session anytime.

By starting a remote support session, you authorize us to access your device remotely to perform the agreed work. We connect only with your permission, using a remote support tool you approve: Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or AnyDesk. Each tool is run by its own company, and that company’s privacy policy applies to the information the tool collects. You must be present to start and authorize every session. We don’t offer unattended access, so we can’t connect to your device without you. Once we’re connected, you’re welcome to step away briefly while we keep working. You can watch the session, and you can end it at any time by closing the remote support program or telling us to stop. Before we wrap up and disconnect, we make every reasonable attempt to reach you. When the work is done, we end the session.

4) Device Ownership and Authorization

In plain English: only ask us to work on devices and software you own or have permission to use.

You confirm that you own, or are authorized to have us service, every device, account, and software product you ask us to work on, and that any software we install at your request is properly licensed. If you’re acting for a business or another person, you confirm you have their authority. We may decline work if we have reason to doubt ownership or authorization.

5) Limitation of Liability

In plain English: if something goes wrong, our liability is limited to what you paid for that service, to the extent Texas law allows.

To the extent Texas law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to a service is limited to the fees you paid us for the service at issue.

Nothing in these Terms waives or limits the implied warranty of good workmanship under Texas law, any liability that can’t be limited by law, or our liability for gross negligence or willful misconduct.

6) No Consequential Damages

In plain English: we’re not responsible for indirect losses like lost profits or downtime.

To the extent Texas law allows, we’re not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost revenue, business interruption, or downtime, even if we were told they were possible.

7) Payment Terms

In plain English: payment is due the same day we do the work, unless we’ve agreed otherwise in advance. If you’re going through a hard time, talk to us. We’ll work out a payment arrangement that fits.

Payment is due the same day the service is performed, unless we’ve agreed otherwise in advance. We accept cash, check, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Bitcoin, and credit and debit cards. Electronic payments are processed through PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Stripe, Authorize.net, and Deluxe. Bitcoin payments are recorded on a public blockchain and are final once confirmed, so any refund will be made in U.S. dollars or another method we agree on.

We’re always willing to work with clients going through hard times to set up a payment arrangement that works for them. Balances unpaid more than 30 days may incur a late fee of 1.5% per month, not to exceed the maximum allowed by Texas law, unless we’ve agreed otherwise with you. We may pause service on accounts with unpaid balances. Refunds, subscriptions, and chargebacks are covered by our Return / Refund Policy.

8) Abandoned or Uncollected Devices

In plain English: if we have your device, please pick it up. We’ll make every reasonable attempt to reach you and send a final written notice. If we don’t hear back within 30 days, the device may be recycled or destroyed, with any storage drives securely wiped or destroyed first.

If we hold a device for repair and it isn’t picked up after we tell you it’s ready (or that it can’t be repaired), we’ll make every reasonable attempt to reach you using the contact details you gave us. Our final notice will be sent in writing, by mail and by email or text. If there’s no response within 30 days after we’ve made every reasonable attempt to reach you, the device may be recycled or destroyed, as allowed by Texas law. Before that happens, any storage drives are securely wiped or destroyed.

9) Third-Party Software and Hardware

In plain English: parts and software are covered by the company that makes them, not by us.

Hardware, parts, and software made by others are covered only by their maker’s warranty and terms. We don’t make separate warranties for third-party products, but we’ll help you with warranty claims where we reasonably can. Help with warranty claims may be billed at our normal rates. Our workmanship guarantee (Section 10) covers our labor.

10) Workmanship Guarantee

In plain English: if the same issue we fixed comes back within 30 days, we’ll fix it again at no labor charge. Some things aren’t covered, listed below, but we’ll always work with you.

If the same issue we fixed comes back within 30 days of the service date, we’ll correct it at no labor charge. This is the same guarantee described in our Return / Refund Policy.

What the guarantee covers: only the specific issue we fixed, and labor only. Parts and hardware carry their maker’s warranty, not ours.

What it doesn’t cover:

  • New or unrelated problems.
  • Viruses, malware, ransomware, or phishing that happen after our service.
  • Software, updates, or drivers installed or changed afterward by you or anyone else, including operating system and vendor automatic updates.
  • Changes made by you or other technicians.
  • Physical, liquid, drop, heat, power-surge, or electrical damage.
  • Hardware that fails from age or normal wear.
  • Third-party hardware, software, or cloud services, and internet service provider (ISP) or internet outages.
  • Data loss. Keeping backups is your responsibility.
  • Account lockouts or lost passwords.
  • Issues caused by not following our recommendations.
  • Work you declined or asked us to limit.
  • Misuse, neglect, or operating a device outside its maker’s specifications.
  • Acts of nature, such as storms, floods, or lightning.
  • Pre-existing conditions we told you about.
  • Consumables and batteries.
  • Hacked accounts that result from your password or login practices.

A few more details:

  • We decide, at our discretion, whether an issue is covered by the guarantee.
  • The guarantee is void if the device is opened or repaired by someone else after our service.
  • To use the guarantee, contact us within 30 days of the service date. We acknowledge within 2 business days.
  • For issues outside the guarantee, we’ll always work with you at our normal rates.
  • Nothing here limits the implied warranty of good workmanship under Texas law where the law requires it, or any other rights you have under Texas law.

11) Client Conduct

In plain English: be respectful and safe, and don’t ask us to do anything illegal.

We’re glad to help and ask the same respect in return. We may decline or stop service if a client is abusive, threatening, or harassing; if the work site is unsafe; or if we’re asked to do something illegal or unethical, such as bypassing security on a device you don’t own or installing unlicensed software. If we find content on a device that we’re legally required to report, we’ll follow the law.

12) Confidentiality

In plain English: what we see on your devices stays private.

We keep confidential any information we see while working on your devices or systems. We access only what the job needs, don’t copy or keep personal files unless the work requires it, and delete temporary copies when the job is done. We’ll disclose information only as required by law or as described in our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information in more detail.

13) Testimonials

In plain English: if you give us a review, we may share it using the name you already show publicly, and we’ll remove or change it if you ask.

If you give us a review or testimonial, you allow us to use it in our marketing. We credit each review using your name exactly as you already show it publicly where you posted it (for example, on Google, Yelp, Facebook, or Thumbtack). That might be a nickname, your full name, or your first name and last initial. We never add details you didn’t share. If you’d like your testimonial removed or changed, email support@secretsimpleit.com and we’ll take care of it.

14) Governing Law and Venue

In plain English: Texas law applies, and any disputes go to court in Williamson County.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Williamson County, Texas, except where the law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. We encourage you to contact us first. Most problems can be solved with a conversation.

15) Severability

In plain English: if one part of these Terms isn’t enforceable, the rest still applies.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed only as much as needed, and the rest of the Terms stays in effect.

16) Changes to These Terms

In plain English: if we update these Terms, we’ll post them here with a new date.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a new effective date and apply to services provided after that date. Services already in progress stay under the Terms in effect when you booked them.
